Unemployment Insurance Fraud Is On The Rise

The New York State Department of labor is warning that scammers are using personal information stolen from worldwide data breaches to get their hands on unemployment money.

The Department of Labor says if you receive an official communication from their office about benefits you didn't apply for, it could be fraud.  If you get any communication from the New York State Department of Labor regarding a claim that you did not file be sure to keep it, don't ignore these as there is a high possibility of someone submitting a fraudulent claim using your information.

To report a fraudulent claim visit NY Department of Labor as well as the Federal Trade Commision.

You can also receive your 3 credit bureau reports free of charge by visiting Annual Credit Report.  Annual Credit Report is allowing free credit report checks weekly through April 2021 to check for fraudulent activity.
